The Government of Sri Lanka, supported by the UNDP and funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), is implementing a seven-year initiative to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable smallholder farmers in Sri Lanka’s Dry Zone. Targeting over 770,500 direct and 1,179,800 indirect beneficiaries, the project focuses on addressing challenges posed by climate change, including rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, and extreme weather events.

Key interventions include:

  1. Upgrading village irrigation systems and promoting climate-resilient farming in three river basins.
  2. Scaling up decentralized water supply systems to ensure access to safe drinking water.
  3. Enhancing weather forecasting, early warning systems, and hydrological management to improve drought and flood resilience.

This integrated approach aims to improve water management, agriculture practices, and community adaptation to climate variability, fostering sustainable livelihoods in the region.
