A capacity development workshop on Identification, Planning, Designing and Supervision of Hydrology Related Activities under the GCF Knuckles Project is currently underway at the IWMI – Yellow River Auditorium, Pelawatte.

The workshop brings together key stakeholders, technical experts, and officials involved in hydrology and water resource management to strengthen knowledge and practical approaches related to hydrology-focused interventions within the Knuckles region.

The programme commenced with participant registration followed by the inaugural session. The welcome address was delivered by Eng. R.M.W. Ratnayake, Programme Leader, highlighting the importance of integrated hydrology planning in climate-resilient development.

Opening remarks were made by Ms. Chandika V. Ethugala, Project Director of the GCF Knuckles Project, who emphasized the project’s objectives and the critical role of hydrology-related activities in safeguarding ecosystems and livelihoods.

An overview of the objectives of the workshop and the way forward was presented by Eng. Chandana Edirisooriya, Chief Executive Officer of the Mahaweli Consultancy Bureau (MCB), focusing on strategic implementation, technical supervision, and sustainable outcomes.

The workshop sessions are designed to facilitate technical discussions, experience sharing, and collaborative planning among participants, contributing to improved hydrology-related interventions under the GCF Knuckles Project.

Hon. Aravinda Senarath, Deputy Minister of Lands and Irrigation, paid an official visit to the Mahaweli Consultancy Bureau (MCB) Jawatta premises recently.

The Hon. Deputy Minister was warmly welcomed by MCB Chief Executive Officer,Eng. Chandana Edirisooriya, along with senior management and officials. During the visit, the Hon. Deputy Minister reviewed the ongoing activities carried out by MCB and obtained an overview of current and upcoming projects.

Through this initiative, MCB aims to connect professional expertise with development projects that contribute to national progress in Sri Lanka and beyond.

The event marked the beginning of a new chapter for the institution, reflecting its commitment to collective growth, professional excellence, and strategic leadership.

Centered around the theme “Together We Lead”, the programme brought together MCB’s management and staff to reaffirm a shared purpose: strengthening the institution as a credible, efficient, and people-centred organization ready to face the year’s challenges with confidence.
